"I" Statement

In many instances I encourage students to use what I call an "I" statement.  An "I" statement lets a person know how you are feeling in a situation.  "I" statements help students to speak up for themselves in a non-confrontational way without blaming the other person.  I practice how to approach and use the "I" statement correctly with students during classroom guidance lessons.  I also go over these with students individually when I feel they need to stand up for themselves or confront a situation peacefully.  An "I" statement is posted in every teacher's room in the building for students to reference, remember, and be aware of.
